Many people write quality blog posts just for them to be lost in the endless swaths of millions of other blog posts without their post ever seeing the light of day that is the front page of Google Search. Until now.
In this article you will learn proven and successful techniques for writing Search Engine Optimized (SEO) blog posts.
This post itself uses these very techniques, so, if you just landed on this page then they have worked for this article and will work for articles built with the same techniques. If you are eager to learn these techniques then read on!
When writing a blog post that is SEO optimized it will make your life easier if you follow these steps:
1. Find a blog post topic that people will want to read
2. Write a headline with good clickthrough rate
3. Write an introduction that will hook the reader
4. Write a lengthy and informative blog post
5. Write a conclusion to wrap the article up
6. Further optimize your post for SEO
7. Create an email list of dedicated readers through newsletters
What do all these steps mean?
1. Find a blog post topic that people will want to read
For the first step, when writing a blog post topic that people will want to read, write about something that will solve the readers’ problems or make the readers’ life easier. For example you could write about tips, tricks, tools, and techniques that help with, or maybe even help solve, dreadful tasks like studying, or preparing for job interviews, or maybe for more mundane and reluctant, but not optional, tasks like cooking, cleaning, exercise, ect. More people tend to click on articles that will help them solve problems.
One powerful way to find topics that are sure to boost clicks is to go online and search for courses or information that people are paying to learn and write a free blog post about those topics.
2. Write a headline with good clickthrough rate
For the second step, when writing a headline that has a good clickthrough rate, write a headline that is long, which increases clicks, and use brackets or parenthesis, which also increases clicks. Use proven phrases such as “X Reasons Why…” or “X Things You Can..” or “The Best Way to X…”. These techniques are very likely to increase SEO.
3. Write an introduction that will hook the reader
For the third step, when writing an introduction that will hook the reader there are three main steps. First, start off the post by telling the reader exactly what to expect from the post so they know they are in the right spot. Second, give some credibility to your content so people know you know what you are talking about, for example, “I have been working in this field for twenty years and have a huge following”. Third and finally, end the introduction with a simple transition to let the reader know the article has started, for example, “Without waiting any longer, let’s begin!”.
4. Write a lengthy and informative blog post
Disclaimer: there is no certain way to write a good blog post, however, there are some tips that can help.
For the most important fourth step, when writing a lengthy and informative blog post, look at this list below:
Use many section subheaders to divide content up for easy reference
Keep paragraphs short for easily digestible content
Use lots of visuals like charts, graphs, data tables, lists, etc
Use internal links, this increases SEO and, when links are to your other content, will increase readers overall
Use a text font that is easy to read, about 16-20px
5. Write a conclusion to wrap the article up
For the fifth step, when writing a conclusion to wrap the article up there are three main steps. First, begin with a transition that is simple and tells your readers that the important parts of the article are over. Second, ask your reader a very simple and specific question that will prompt them to leave a comment, for example, in the case of this very post, “What technique will you use first for SEO blog posts?” or “What one technique are you learning about for the first time?”. Third and finally, ask the reader to do something. This is important to ask because if the reader made it to the end of the article it can be assumed that the reader enjoyed the content and will want more input or redirection from your end, therefore you can ask the reader to “Leave a comment” or “Share this with your friends” or “Read this other blog post” and be pretty certain that they will.
6. Further optimize your post for SEO
Disclaimer: some of these are repeated from step 4, but are important so they are still included as a reminder that if you have not done them yet, you should.
Craft the URL of your post. Keep your URL shorter as Google prioritizes shorter URLs in SEO.
Use your keyword (in my case it would be “SEO Blog Posts”) frequently but do not overuse your keyword.
Add internal links which hosts a number of benefits, namely it helps search engine spiders that crawl your site looking for links tell the search engine more about your post, for example, if I have an internal link on my post about SEO Blogging Techniques that redirects to a post about SEO Blogging Tools it will help the search engine understand that the post is about SEO and blogging.
Include your keyword in your blog post title so Google will show your post when the keyword is searched.
Optimize your Meta Description and its length. When your post is displayed in a Google search Google may include your meta description in the results directly below your website name. The description is less than 200 words so try to include as much useful information as possible while also including your keyword to tell readers what the post or website is about.
Bonus tip: for a substantial increase in SEO go back to your older posts and update them from time to time, for example, you could add links to your newer posts or update obsolete information.
7. Create an email list of dedicated readers through newsletters
Disclaimer: while this step will not exactly increase your SEO in the short-term, it is very important to build up a community of readers.
To create an email list simply have a section of your post (typically at the very bottom) where readers can sign up with their email usually for information, dates of future posts, etc. Afterwards, collect their emails and promote your content to them.
This is a very important step that is usually overlooked. Promotion is a huge part of blogging and having a community of people ready to read and share whatever post you throw at them will substantially increase success in blogging.
This step takes time to complete and should be seen as a step in your entire blogging career as opposed to a single step in a post, nonetheless, still incredibly important.
Conclusion
Make sure to do your research for things like blog topics and the post itself.
Most importantly, follow the aforementioned steps for SEO Blog Post success and create an email newsletter.
