Jasper AI vs Chat-GPT

Updated: Mar 13, 2023

In this article we will go over the main differences of Jasper AI and Chat-GPT as well as the pros and cons of choosing Jasper AI over Chat-GPT. It is assumed that you, the reader, already know what both Jasper AI and Chat-GPT are but if you need a refresher:

Chat-GPT

Chat-GPT is a chat-bot designed to give accurate human-like responses to users when prompted. Designed by OpenAI and running on OpenAI’s GPT-3, Chat-GPT is one of the most powerful, and one of the most popular (more on this later), artificial intelligence (AI) tools available to the public.

Jasper AI

Jasper AI is a powerful tool using GPT-3 designed to leverage AI to help the user be more efficient and creative in their work. Jasper AI achieves this through a clean, streamlined interface and an amazing variety of templates to help the user quickly and efficiently generate original content using AI.

With that out of the way we will take a look at the biggest difference of Jasper AI vs Chat-GPT

Price

The most notable difference of the two is the cost of the service.

Chat-GPT is completely free to use, for now at least. Jasper AI is a paid service with free trial.

Chat-GPT recently released a paid option for $20 monthly that has premium features.

Price: Pros and Cons

These pros and cons are related to pricing and premium features

Chat-GPT Pros:

Chat-GPT is completely free to use for the time being because Chat-GPT is in its “learning” phase and is not completely finished. This will change in the future and Chat-GPT could become a paid-only service very soon.

Chat-GPT has a premium version that is $20 monthly which includes:

  • On demand access to Chat-GPT during high usage (you will not be locked out when there are many people using Chat-GPT)

  • Exclusive access to brand new features

  • Faster response times*

When you have the premium version you can use Chat-GPT as much as you want

Chat-GPT Cons:

One of the issues of Chat-GPT being free is that the service is very popular, which is good for OpenAI but comes with a few problems for the user.

  • Being unable to use Chat-GPT when there is high usage

When Chat-GPT is experiencing lots of traffic, OpenAI will restrict any more users from using Chat-GPT until usage goes down to prevent their servers from being overworked.

  • Slow response times during high usage

  • First come, first served access for free users

As mentioned earlier, OpenAI only lets a certain number of users use Chat-GPT at once. This means if you want to use Chat-GPT, you need to get on the website before more people start using it.

After trying Chat-GPT Plus, OpenAI’s premium version of Chat-GPT, I learned that their “faster response times” that come with the subscription heavily relies on your own internet connection. My connection is not very great, so I tested the response times, and as a result the response times were only a fraction of a second quicker than the free version. Keep in mind that response times are different depending on what content you are trying to generate.

On top of that, even if you have the premium version, when there is very high traffic on the website your response times can slow down regardless.

Jasper AI Pros:

Jasper AI has a free trial of any price subscription (excluding business plan) and lasts five days

Unlike Chat-GPT Plus, which is stuck at $20 monthly, with Jasper AI you can choose how much you want to pay for your subscription depending on how much you will use the service, allowing flexibility to go higher or lower with pricing in exchange for different features and varied access.

Jasper AI has a Chrome extension allowing you to generate content with Jasper AI anywhere on the web

Jasper AI has 70+ templates that allow the user to easily generate the content they need

Jasper AI is supported in 30+ languages

Jasper AI Cons:

Jasper AI is expensive, with the lowest price being $49 monthly and the highest being $600+ monthly

Jasper AI is limited access, meaning even with the subscription you can only use Jasper so many times. To explain, Jasper uses a credit system. One credit = one word. With the lowest plan you get 50,000 words/credits per month. Here's how to get 10,000 free credits!

On top of this, monthly credits do not add up into the next month, meaning after one month has passed your credits will go back to the amount you started with regardless of how many you used in the month prior.

Features

As mentioned earlier, both Chat-GPT and Jasper AI use GPT-3. This means that Jasper AI can do most of everything Chat-GPT can accomplish and vice-versa.

The difference here is how well both bots can do tasks and how easy it is for the user to have these bots do tasks.

Jasper AI has its strength in its versatility with 70+ templates to help the user efficiently generate content. Chat-GPT is designed to be a conversational chat-bot so Chat-GPT does not have templates as a feature, in other words, you have to think of how to get the correct response from Chat-GPT.

Both Jasper AI and Chat-GPT’s response times rely on the strength of your internet connection as a whole, but for Jasper AI the problems end here and for Chat-GPT the problems start.

Because Jasper AI is a paid service, not as many people are using it compared to Chat-GPT, which means you do not have the same problems of slow response times due to high usage when using Jasper AI.

We already discussed how OpenAI can and will lock you out of service if you are a free user and there are too many users accessing the website and similar problems.

Chat-GPT’s Big Problem

Chat-GPT currently has a big problem that is unlikely to ever be solved. Chat-GPT has a left-leaning political bias for its responses and will sometimes blatantly lie about politically controversial topics to save face. To give you an example, Chat-GPT supports abortion, you can make of that what you will. For many this is not an issue but for some this is a deal breaker, especially when Chat-GPT also has a future as a search engine, who would want to use Chat-GPT if it only spits out one side of the story?

The reason this is important is that Chat-GPT will not be viable as a singular tool to research certain topics or events as you will not be able to get both sides of the story and evaluate where you stand based on the facts if Chat-GPT’s responses have a bias.

The reason this is unlikely to ever change is that being left-leaning (similar to being Politically Correct) is considered “good business”. Right now it is the industry standard.

I have not seen any indication of bias in Jasper AI’s responses, but I did not want to waste credits on asking questions I already know the answer to, so I cannot say for certain if Jasper AI has this problem.

Summary

Which AI tool you should choose, Chat-GPT or Jasper AI, depends on what you will be using them for.

Jasper AI is better for content creation in general with versatile templates but suffers from a high price tag.

Chat-GPT is free and a safer option for those who do not want to commit to a subscription and for beginners, but suffers greatly from high usage of the service leading to restricted access for most users.

My recommendation is to use Chat-GPT at first, at least as long as it is still free, and when you can. But if you get annoyed with restricted access or when Chat-GPT will eventually become paid only, use Jasper AI instead of Chat-GPT Plus subscription, as Jasper AI is only second to Chat-GPT as long as Chat-GPT stays a free service.
